Classic American-British late 1970's Rock band featuring Paul Kossoff on the Studio Tracks and Crawler Live in action at My Father's Place, New Jersey 1977. Steaming hot gig! Raw to the Bone. They released a third self-titled album in 1977 and a final LP, Snake, Rattle and Roll, in 1978. In 1973, when Free disbanded, their guitarist Paul Kossoff returned to the studio to complete a solo album which was titled Back Street Crawler. He was heavily into a drug dependency at the time and it wasnt until early 1975 that he cleaned up and returned to form a group of the same name. This lineup recorded The Band Plays On, prior to Kossoffs death from a heart attack while on a flight to New York in March 1976. A follow-up album, 2nd Street which featured sessions with Paul recorded in Los Angeles was released in early 1976.

There are several live Peter Tosh recordings around so why pick this one? Well, this was recorded just after Peter had signed to Rolling Stones Records and the Bush Doctor album has been released only weeks before this show – there was a lot of anticipation around at the club in New York, most of it centring on the question of whether or not any or all of The Rolling Stones would show up. In the end none did, but to judge from the enthusiastic audience reaction that can be heard throughout, it didn’t really matter – Peter won the crowd over anyway.
Although time has already rendered most of Captain Beefheart's studio recordings magnificent at best and reluctantly inspired at worst, there's never been a successful method of conveying what must have been one of the great live shows in the history of rock. could harness this kind of energy, we wouldn't be in Iraq right now. Unfortunately, for the last three decades, the official live Beefheart concerts have been pretty dismal: They either document some of the less interesting permutations of the band in the 1980s or are marred by poor recording technology.
